Loofah only.

Only one format for now (9 gr)

At Plant Fiber , the production of organic plant sponges officially began in 2015. Plant sponges come from a plant in the cucurbit family, the loofah or loofah. It is a subtropical plant, which is why, ideally, it grows in a greenhouse in our latitudes, although we can very well manage to have some fruits outside in southern Quebec. Cultivated in a greenhouse, it reaches full maturity and therefore produces a greater number of fruits. The plant produces squash with an average length of about 50 cm. When ripe, the flesh inside the fruit dries, leaving only the fiber. The squash are then peeled and washed carefully, then comes the arduous step of extracting the seeds from the fruit. Then they will be dried in the sun and ready to use.

Loofahs can be used for a variety of purposes, including exfoliating the skin and cleaning fruits, vegetables and cutlery. If they are well maintained (well dried between each use), they can be kept for months. They are also washable in the dishwasher and washing machine. Don't put them in the dryer though, otherwise they will shrink like wool does! When their useful life is over, they compost. Everything that is most ecological and zero waste product!

The loofah sponges sold in Quebec come largely from Asia and the Middle East and, even if they are sometimes certified organic, they are often treated in a way to avoid the importation of unwanted organisms. They are also compacted and delivered by container, which means that they travel a long time before arriving in your home! To date, Plant Fiber is the only producer of loofahs in Quebec and its ambition is to develop enough expertise to increase yields and production and thus make it a full-fledged production. Slowly but surely!

You are invited to visit The Luffa Ranch, a very beautiful farm located in North Carolina which has been producing loofahs for several years now and with which Plant Fiber has had the opportunity to exchange on several occasions.

Also, the very fine production of Juan Carlos Mascato in the north of Spain, in Galicia, with whom the plant fiber is in regular contact and where the genetics of his loofahs, Iberica de esponjas vegetales, come from.

In the kitchen, for washing dishes or cleaning fruits and vegetables. For bathing, loofah is used for exfoliation. Known to stimulate blood circulation, it prevents cellulite and softens the skin. Massage gently using small circular movements.

Machine or dishwasher washable. Allow to air dry between each use.

For external use only.

Cultivated on a small scale in St-Denis-sur-Richelieu (Quebec), the plant sponges of the company Plant fiber are the fruit of the loofah or loofah, a plant of the cucurbit family which, when mature, is peeled, washed and dried in the sun.
